In which work is not a life course but a flood in which our hero bobs and floats precariously, embodying a compelling human story of the Italian economy in crisis in the 21st century. Yes, there was marriage. Yes, there may be hope in the love of a son and a young woman also caught in the crisis. Yet we are haunted by the insecurities of middle age and the charades by which work, love and life may be maintained.
